What a long couple of days! Yesterday I left Mol and caught three trains to get to Köln.
It's a beer vending machine!! |
Köln station stopover was for about seven hours, so I had a look at the Köln cathedral. Wow.
I think to get the whole cathedral in one photo,
I would need to stand in Belgium |
I climbed up it - I think I shed half my bodyweight on those steps - and had a lovely view over Köln. It was interesting looking at the rest of the cathedral from that height, too.
So detailed... |
So high up, and there are still other spires up here |
Selfie with the cornice thing |
The inside of the cathedral was incredible. I think it was at least twice as high as Australia's tallest cathedral. Absolutely massive, and astoundingly gorgeous.
These stained glass windows are the most vibrant
I've seen |
I think this was a woodcarving with paintings -
incredible |
The mosaics on the floor are mind blowing |
Then I napped until my 22:28 train to Praha. It was interesting, the overnight train. I found it hard to sleep, but it was nice to have a bed (I had the top of three). Arrived in Praha about 9:30 this morning, and got some money out. Well. I got confused with the conversion rates and tried to get out AUD 1,000 but took out about AUD 200 instead, but it's okay - everything in the Czech Republic is cheap! My walk to the hostel was interesting. I found; two museums; and opera house; an absinthe shop; an Irish pub; and two sex shops.
I think this one is the opera house |
There is alcohol everywhere here, and it's so cheap! A big bottle of beer is around AUD 1! The buildings here are gorgeous, and I think more square and flat that what I've seen elsewhere.
I love corner buildings |
So beautiful! |
The shop windows have some interesting things, too.
The bread in the middle is awesome,
and the TR corner is a bread basket made of bread! |
The hostel where I'm staying has some Czech facts on the walls.
"Czechs drink more beer per capita than any other country in the world (avg 327 beers per person each year) |
"Until WWII, Czechs drove on the left side of the road, just as in Great Britain" |
An early night tonight, then exploring the city tomorrow!
Glad that you arrived in Prague safely. And I know *exactly* how you felt about the Koelnerdom.
